I don’t know where I heard about this but the fact that the N91 (and the N70, 7610 and other phones without 850Mhz) doesn’t support 850Mhz means that GPRS data doesn’t work (although voice works fine!). Aaargh. Interesting that it worked fine in San Jose at NetSquared; I guess data is not carried on 850Mhz in San Jose.
Cool realtime updated outlines and irc at freenode.irc.net #bloggercon. Full details here
After a half hour delay and some lunch and some badly needed ice coffee (it's positively tropical here today by Vancouver standards!), I am here at the Adante Hotel (no aircon but I love the heat and it's nice and cool in my room!) at 610 Geary (thanks Petrina!) working away on their free internet (no WiFi in the rooms). Looking forward to meeting with the peeps tonight at 6:45p.m.ish and to tomorrow's Bloggercon. Give me a call at 604 729 7924 if you want to meet up!
I'm at Vancouver waiting for my (delayed) flight to San Francisco for BloggerCon IV and BarCamp San Francisco and my sleep deprived brain is reflecting nostalgically on previous BloggerCons especially the first one back in October 2003 in Boston:
- 2003 seems so far away. Much has changed and much has stayed the same. But one thing seems to be constant. Almost everybody I met at BloggerCon I way back
in 2003 have profited in some way indirectly (not usually directly) from their blog.
- I remember being in a cab with Doc Searls, Britt Blaser and Dan Gillmor and speaking with the cabbie on why he was voting Republican. It was then (in a rare feat of prescience) that I knew that the 2004 election was lost for the Democrats.
- Speaking of Britt, I sure wish he could make it to BloggerCon IV. But I bet he's busy with Orgware and Podslam and his other ventures after an all too brief vacation in Ireland
- I remember meeting Joey (love to hear that accordion belting out Iko Iko Friday and Saturday but alas he's not coming) and Wendy (who did a stellar job of organizing the first BloggerCon) and sharing Indian food with them and Dave and many others and now they are married and live in Toronto.
- Had great conversations with Susan Mernit, Deeje Cooley and Scott Johnson over Indian food.
- Met the proud papa, wine lover med musings guy Enoch Choi who the kid, Barb and I had the pleasure of lunching with and his family at BloggerCon III.
I must admit I was skeptical but the Nokia Podcasting app (currently in beta) works quite well and it works with video podcasts like Rocketboom (I tested out Rocketboom’s 3GP feed at http://www.rocketboom.com/vlog/tele_daily_enclosures.xml and it works well!)
Go Philippines! I wish we had this in Canada.

Globe Telecom, the leading telecommunications operator in the Philippines, and Nokia, today announced that Globe is the first operator in the world to offer their customers a fully integrated mobile online sharing experience with Nokia Nseries phones.
Without the need to download or install any additional applications, Globe customers can now upload their photos and video clips directly from their compatible Nokia Nseries device to G-Blogs, Globe's mobile blogging service. The first devices to support this feature are the Nokia N93 and Nokia N73 multimedia computers.

Rochester, NY, June 20 — Eastman Kodak Company today announced the KODAK EASYSHARE P712 zoom digital camera, setting a new performance benchmark for the consumer “superzoom” category. Its precision auto-focus system with best-in-class click-to-capture rate — literally faster than the blink of an eye, at less than 1/10th of a second (0.07 seconds) — helps photographers get the exact shots they want, whether action on a sports field or children on the playground.

Colin of All about N91 commented that the N80/Series 60 v3 SU-8W driver should work and it does, thanks! D’oh. It’s very confusing to figure out which device runs which variant of Series 60. In my sleep deprived state, I mistakenly thought the N90 was also a Series 60 v3 device. Nokia, please update the SU-8W driver page (and also build this into the OS or pre-install it!).
DALSA Semiconductor, a division of DALSA Corporation (TSX:DSA), an international high performance semiconductor and electronics company, announced today that it has successfully fabricated and delivered the world’s highest resolution image sensor chip to its customer, Semiconductor Technology Associates (“STA”) of San Juan Capistrano, California. The CCD device, which measures approximately four inches by four inches, has a total resolution of over 111 million pixels (10,560 pixels x 10,560 pixels at 9µm). It is the world’s first imager to break the 100 million pixel barrier.
