Ian Lyons’ review of Lightroom 1.1 is the best I’ve found so far

Filed under: The Digital Life — Administrator @ 10:45 am

Ian Lyons' Lightroom 1.1 Review is the best Lightroom 1.1 review and summary of what's new I've found so far. Complete with informative annotated screenshots! Thanks!

FROM Adobe Lightroom:

So what's with the reference to a photo shoot to Antarctica? The photo shoot was memorable for many reasons, not least of which was the opportunity it provided to put Lightroom through its paces away from the comfort of home and our very speedy desktop computers. It allowed us to see how the application performed in the hands of those less familiar with its operation. It also provided an opportunity for those who had influenced much of what had gone into Lightroom 1.0 to hear what others really thought. Much was learned (good points and bad) and I think it’s fair to say that many of the frustrations experienced by a much larger group of users since the official launch was also experienced by those on board the good ship Professor Multanovskiy.

Did much of what we learned find it's way back into Lightroom 1.1? Some of it did and some didn't, but then again Rome wasn't built in a day. Remember, Lightroom still hasn't celebrated its first birthday, so expectations of major enhancements are unrealistic, or are they?

Skype on the Nokia N800: it’s alive, it’s ALIVE!

Yes! Sign me up for the beta in July! Can’t wait for Skype on the N800! Looking forward to doing a head to head comparison versus Gtalk and gizmo!

I’m getting ready to leave NYC and the Digital Experience show, but had to share one tidbit before leaving. Among the many booths I stopped at was the Nokia booth. The big news there wasn’t a new device, it was a service, and that service is Skype! It’s been a long time coming, but Skype support for the Nokia N800 is right around the corner. I got a chance to see it, but it won’t be available as a download until some time in July. The Nokia N800 already supports Gizmo for VoIP, but the addition of Skype adds more choice to make a good mobile device an even better one.

Aperture VS Lightroom

Filed under: Digital Cameras, The Digital Life — Administrator @ 11:13 am

Macworld have reviewed and compared the Aperture to Lightroom and here’s why they think the Aperture is better than Lightroom for digital photographers;

aperture-vs-lightroom

“Aperture will appeal most to photographers who largely compose in-camera and want an application that will make quick work of culling images. The program offers better options for importing and storing your photos, and its project structure is better tuned than Lightroom’s collections- and folder-based approach… ”
